Even as chit fund scams have time and again rocked the State, people still continue to fall into the trap of scamsters for the greed of high returns.
In the latest instance, a nonbanking finance company (NBFC), Datum, is alleged to have duped scores of investors of crores of rupees in Brahmapur luring them with promises of doubling their investments in six years.
like other fly-by-night operators, the Datum company has closed down its office and vanished.
locals of Kanisi village on Friday staged a protest in front of the firm’s branch office and demanded immediate arrest of the owner of the company. They also ransacked the office.
Depositors allege that the company had been operating in the area from 2008 and had allegedly taken crores of rupees from the people on pretext of high returns.
The company suddenly downed its shutters and ceased its branch operation a year back.
later, the company officials also went absconding.
The investors said they want the company owner to be arrested and return of the money they had invested. Otherwise they would take to the streets.
An FIR has been lodged and investigation would begin soon, informed the local police.
