Poll petition: Supreme Court rejects Dasburma's SlP

Published on:

In a jolt to Brahmagiri BJD MlA and former Minister Sanjay Dasburma, the Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the special leave petition (SlP) filed by him seeking annulment of a poll petition filed against him by late Congress leader lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra.

The apex court also upheld the verdict of the Orissa High Court in this regard, as a result of which the case will now continue in the High Court.

Notably, defeated Congress candidate Mohapatra had filed the case in the High Court in 2014 alleging large-scale irregularities in the elections in the Brahmagiri Assembly constituency in 2014.

The High Court had on July 24, 2015 rejected a petition filed by Dasburma seeking quashing of the election petition. Dasburma had moved the Supreme Court against the High Court’s order.

After lalatendu Mohapatra’s death, his younger brother lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra has been fighting the poll case on the late leader’s behalf.                PNS
