The BJP on Friday said the lowest voters’ turnout in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s home district Ganjam and the poll boycott in Hinjili constituency have exposed his false claims of effecting development in the State.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP stage spokesperson Sajjan Sharma said the villagers of Chikili under Hinjili Assembly constituency boycotted the poll protesting State Government’s apathy in providing them basic facilities like road connectivity, drinking water, school and electricity.
Besides, voters of another five villages also boycotted the polling citing similar reason in the district, he said.Commenting on the Chief Minister’s home district Ganjam recording the lowest voters’ turnout at 64.50 percent, Sharma said it has exposed that how the people of Patnaik’s own district are dissatisfied.
“Though the State Government has been receiving huge Central funds from the time of NDA Government for providing minimum basic facilities to the people, it failed to utilise the funds,” he said.
He wanted that the Chief Minister clarify the poll boycott in his constituency was not the result of discontentment of people. He said the people have been dissatisfied as the law and order situation has deteriorated and crimes against women have increased in Patnaik’s 14 years’ regime. “Nobody except Chief Minister is safe in the State,” he said.
He cited many examples of Patnaik’s alleged failure in providing protection to women and leaders.“The State Government’s failure is evident from the incidences of murder of ruling MlA Jagabandhu Majhi, kidnapping of a Collector and foreign nationals and murder of Tikiri school teacher Itistree,he said.
