Two days after the Ganjam district RTO’s website was hacked, Odisha Police on Tuesday said it would seek the help of Interpol to nab the hacker.
“We have identified the hacker and will seek the assistance of Interpol to arrest him,” DGP KB Singh said.
“He is an international criminal and hacked the site from California in the US,”stated the official.
After coming to know about the hacking, which had taken place on December 29, police had said on January 3 that it was the handiwork of one Abbas Abraham.
After hacking the site, Abraham had put the banner of an unknown organisation, Pakistan Cybercrew, on the website. Besides, Pakistan’s national flag written with ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ was also displayed on the homepage of the website.
Though Crime Branch ADG BK Sharma had stated that the website in question was not the official site of the RTO, the incident raised eyebrows on the cyber security of the State Government, especially in the backdrop of the recent arrest of suspected al-Qaeda operative Abdur Rehman and Puri train arson prime accused Ramachandran Subhas.
The question remains why the cyber security cell of the State intelligence could not get a whiff of the incident for five full days after the website was hacked.
