Police take hardcore criminal Karan Singh on remand

In the much-hyped murder of Baisakhu Naik, the Jharsuguda police have for the second time taken hardcore criminal Karan Singh in remand for five days on Thursday.

In 2003, Singh had allegedly killed Baisakhu Naik and dumped his body in a well. Police claim that in its previous interrogation with Singh, he had confessed to his crime.

In the probe, Singh revealed that he has been involved in multiple criminal cases and used to extort money from contractors working in Jharsuguda Airport. Based on Singh’s statement, the police had also detained Jharsuguda Youth Congress president Robin Pandey and Congress Councillor Sudhanshu Mohapatra in this racket wherein Pandey was released but Mohapatra was sent to SDJM Court and later sent to Jharsuguda sub-jail on Friday.

The police expect to nab more politically connected criminals in this nexus after taking Singh in remand.

On Thursday some political leaders during their meeting with Jharsuguda police said that police had to establish detail facts about linkage of Karan with these political leaders. Further, police sources said that action would be taken against the leaders if their linkage with Karan is proved during interrogation.

Reports said Singh is accused in 20 cases of murder, extortion, loot, robbery and eight of his aides are behind the bars now. Singh is also wanted in Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha in connection with more criminal cases.
