The Commissionerate Police investigating the murder of a couple Kalia Sahu and Sukanti and another woman Shanti Pati at Bharatpur on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday suspected on Wednesday the role of Shanti Pati’s grandson in the gruesome incident. Police sources said Shanti’s grandson Bhuvan, who had come to his granny’s house a few days ago, is still at large from the day of the incident which occurred at the slum. The police have started verifying his link with the incident. “If we find Bhuvan’s link in the murder case, we will arrest him,” said a senior police official.

local sources said Bhuvan had married the deceased couple’s granddaughter. After a few months, Kalia’s granddaughter died in suspicious circumstances. Police sources said Bhuvan had been asking Kalia to transfer his 600 sq ft house in his name, but the latter didn’t obey Bhuvan’s order. Kalia transferred power of attorney of his land in the name of his brother-in-law and it created animosity between them.

The property dispute might be the reason behind the murder, said the senior police official. The official said Bhuvan might have attacked his granny supporting the deceased couple. “But it is not quite clear till now whether Bhuvan is involved in the matter or not. After proper verification, we can tell you the detail,” said the official.

Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma said they are hopeful enough to crack the case very soon. “We have received some vital leads in the case,” he said. He said the police have started the manhunt to nab Bhuvan to get more information in the case. From preliminary investigation, Dr Sharma said Shanti’s grandson was a drug addict. “We are trying to record statement of neighbours to get more information regarding the case,” he added. The relatives of the accused have also requested the police to solve the case soon.
