The Commissionerate Police submitted a 70-page charge sheet before a local court here on Thursday in the Ushashree murder case.

The police in the charge sheet mentioned clearly about the role of its lone accused ex-Army medical officer Dr Somnath Parida, who had sliced his wife Ushashree to over 280 pieces on June 3 this year. Investigating officer of the case, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bishnu Mishra, submitted the charge sheet before the court here ahead of completion of 120 days of the murder.

The investigating team mentioned in detail about reports on lie detection on Parida, post-mortem on the body, circumstantial evidence against the accused, weapon used for chopping Ushashree, statements of 25 people, including deceased’s son and daughter and her brothers Goutam Samal and Ranjan Samal along with their gardener. Police further said before the court that they would submit a chemical report after it reaches to them.

Twin City Police Commissioner Dr RP Sharma said they had gathered adequate substantial evidence against the offender, which was enough for his conviction during trial in court. But Parida’s lawyer A Raj said that police hurriedly submitted the charge sheet to meet the deadline which was not enough for conviction of his client.  Notably, currently, Parida is in jail after his bail pleas were rejected thrice by court.
