Police register case in Ravenshaw ragging

Published on:

Even as the authorities of the Ravenshaw Junior College and the Ravenshaw University have begun a joint enquiry into the alleged ragging of a Plus Two student, a boarder of a women’s hostel, the Malgodown police have started investigating into the case after registering a case.

Sources said the police have registered the case under section 341, 332, 249, 294, 427 and 34 of IPC upon receiving a complaint from the victim’s father. The complainant has also named the accused in the FIR, who are pursuing Plus III in the University. Both the junior student and senior students were inmates of the same hostel.

Earlier, the university authorities after holding an internal enquiry into the incident had ruled out the allegation of ragging. “It was a conflict arising out of ego problems and adjustments between the junior and the senior students, who were sharing the same room,” sources in the university said.

However, following conflicting reports emerged; it was decided to have a joint enquiry taking teachers from both the junior college and the university in the enquiry committee to gather more evidence. Similarly, the city DCP has formed a committee taking women police officers in it to investigate the matter.
