Following an FIR lodged by Susanta Behera, the local correspondent of Odia weekly ‘Shasak Prashasak’, Uditnagar police on Tuesday registered a case against Sundargarh Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson Babita Mohapatra and her husband Kailash Sabat.

Appropriate action will be taken against the accused after preliminary investigation is over, the police said.

Behera has accused Babita Mohapatra, who was axed from the membership of District Consumer Redressal Forum by Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare on charges of holding two posts simultaneously, and her husband of abusing and threatening him after a news regarding Mohapatra’s removal was carried in ‘Shasak Prashasak’ in its October 31-November 6 issue.

Reacting on the news, Mohapatra and Sabat abused Behera over mobile phone and then coming over to his house at Basanti Nagar threatened him of dire consequences.

Having no other way, Behera lodged an FIR at Uditnagar police Station on Monday against the Mohapatra couple.

“They not only humiliated and threatened me but also used filthy language against the publisher of the weekly Girija Sankar Das,” Behera said.
