The Pottangi police in Koraput district on Wednesday registered a case against five Maoists for their alleged involvement in the Sunki Ghat landmine blast on February 1, which claimed lives of eight policemen.

The Red rebels, against whom case has been registered, are Koraput-Srikakulam Maoist Division chief Suresh, Karuna, Ranjit, Malesu and Aandru.

The police also submitted a list of items seized from the blast site in the Koraput Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court. The police also prayed the court for a forensic examination of the seized items.

The police’s plea to hand over the case to the Crime Branch was accepted by the court.
