Following inputs provided by a visiting team of the Cuttack police from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, the city police here on Sunday conducted raids at some undisclosed locations in the State to unearth further links and fortunes of the arrested mafia Dhalsamant brothers.

Booked under several criminal cases, Sushil Dhalsamant and his elder brother Sushant have been arrested by the Commissionerate Police on Friday. After multiple raids conducted at their houses and offices located in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, the police have so far seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition and stacks of currency notes.

While a police team went to Vizag on Saturday, more teams would leave for Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru soon as it has already been established that the two brothers had business links in these areas as well.

A senior city police officer speaking to this correspondent confirmed the raids being conducted on Sunday but refused to divulge the details now in view of the ongoing investigations. Sources said at least four to five persons, believed to be close associates of the mafia brothers, are now being quizzed at different police stations of the city.

“We are now verifying the seized bank and other property documents to establish the sources and modus operandi by which the brothers were able to make such a huge fortune,” said the police officer, confirming that no new arrest has been done in this connection yet. He also refused to comment whether any more cash or weapon has been seized during raids on Sunday.

Meanwhile, endorsing the recent achievement of the Commissionerate Police, DGP KB Singh on Sunday said the police have now changed its crime-control strategy and would make all-out effort to come down heavily on the tender mafias and transport mafias.

“Our strategy has now changed. Instead of waiting for the crime to happen, we will now identify the criminals first and chase them so that they are not able to commit any further crime,” the DGP said while speaking to the media.
