An interface between police and public was held in the district headquarters here. This was convened by a civil society body where several issues pertaining to law and order, especially security of senior citizen and women were discussed.

Superintendent of Police Niti Sekahr and other senior police officials attended the meeting. The participants alleged that loot and snatching incidents were increasing day by day and the incidents were occurring around banks.

The police, besides stating that the plain policemen were deployed around the bank, said they would stop practice of covering face with cloth by young boys in the town.

“As crimes are being committed by the people covering their faces, their images are not identified from the CCTV footage. Therefore, we would stop the young boys who are covering their faces with clothes,” said police, adding the patrolling would be further stepped up in the vulnerable pockets of the town.

Additional SP Santosh Nayak, who is also nodal officer for the senior citizen, said several initiatives have been taken up for their welfare.

“If any senior citizen fears while withdrawing cash from bank, he or she can approach us. If the amount is Rs 1 lakh or more, we would provide constable to escort him/ her up to her house from bank.

Further, we appeal them to get the antecedent of their domestic helps verified before engaging them in works. Further, we appeal them to install camera in the main door, calling bell and get the essential and emergency number written in a diary.

We also appeal them not to show their cash or jewellery to their domestic helps,” said Nayak.

SP Sekhar said a fresh proposal has been sent to the Government for establishment of tourist police station at Chandipur.
