The Cuttack city police are now in a tizzy after a youth lodged a written complaint at the Cantonment police station on Friday stating that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik having appointed a corrupt IPS officer as State DGP in 2012 had actually tried to shield a corrupt person. Claiming to be a social activist, Sanjit Kumar Samal of the city has urged the police to investigate into the matter after registering his written complaint as an FIR.
Samal in his plaint has questioned that if Prakash Mishra was involved in corrupt practices as Chairman of the Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation between 2006 and 2009 then how he was chosen as the DGP in July 2012. “By appointing a corrupt officer to the coveted post of DGP, the CM has shielded the corrupt officer and has encouraged corrupt practices,” Samal said.
But the Cantonment police are in a dilemma as to whether to treat the complaint as an FIR or not. “We have made a station diary of the complaint. But the same cannot be treated as an FIR since the complaint is bereft of any material evidence in support of it,” said a source in the police station.
