In an effort to trace an abscondee, identified as Saroj Kumar Rath of Diwanpur (Nimapur), who is involved in a rape case, the Pattamundai police pasted pamphlets of the accused in all the police stations of the district and also in prominent places and announced a cash reward of Rs 5,000 for the informant.
The information on the abscondee can be shared with the Kendrapada SP or the SDPO Pattamundai. The identity of the informant would be kept secret, it was said.
According to sources, Rath was working as a reporter for Pattamundai block in a private Odia TV channel. He kept physical relationship with a girl under the pretext of marrying her. But when the victim came to know that Saroj was a married person having a child, the latter allegedly tortured her both physically and mentally, informed SDPO of Pattamundai Sandhyarani Behuria.
The victim girl later lodged an FIR at Pattamundai police station against Saroj. But though more than a month has been passed, the accused has been absconding. Meanwhile, the victim girl threatened to immolate herself on January 4 in front of the DG office.
“We have assured and convinced the victim that police would arrest the accused person soon. As many as three police teams are conducting raids at different hideouts,” informed SP Madkar Sandeep Sampat.
