Jareikela police outpost, located in the Odisha - Jharkhand border under Bisra police station of the district, which had been closed since 2011following rise in Maoist activities in the locality, was reopened here on Friday.
In a simple function, Inspector General of Police (Western Range) RK Sharma inaugurated the outpost, amid presence of Rourkela SP Anirudha Singh and Divisional Forest Officer, Rourkela, Sanjit Kumar, besides hundreds of locals. The reopening of the police outpost received welcome responses from different quarters, mainly from the residents of the bordering locality, who were forced to travel about 20 km to reach Bisra police station to lodge their complaints.
Sources said Jareikela police outpost, which is about 100 meters away from much publicised Saranda forest, was constantly under the target of the Maoists. Significantly, the Maoist activities in Saranda forest area were on its peak during 2010.
