During an interface between the Commissionerate police and public at GGP Colony here on Sunday, residents of the area demanded shifting of the police outpost from the Rasulgarh Square to their locality keeping in view the rising crime in the colony.
Residents of the colony, including senior citizens, requested Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma to bring the area under the jurisdiction of a single police station as it is now scattered under the jurisdictions of three neighbouring police stations. Most of the time, they face problems while asking help from the police, said the residents.
The senior citizens urged Sharma to provide them security as crimes against elderly people are on the increase. They also raised the issues of lack of adequate traffic police to manage vehicles and crowds at the Rasulgarh Square. The residents demanded night patrolling in the area to keep an eye on the activities of criminals. The senior citizens also urged the Commissioner to take adequate steps against auto-rickshaw drivers who are misbehaving with people and charging exorbitant fares.
In view of the spurt in crimes in the city by unknown miscreants recently, Dr Sharma appealed to the residents to keep data of tenants staying in the area. The house owners should submit data regarding the identity of their tenants with photos, if possible, he advised. Dr Sharma also told police officers to behave cordially with the public while the latter come to the police stations.
Among others, Additional Commissioner of Police Dr Santosh Bala, Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh and Ward-5 corporator Pratap Kumar Routray were present. Notably, during the earlier public-police interface at Salia Sahi, the initiative had started from Ward-15 of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the tenants were requested to furnish their identities by September 10.
