With the beginning of the Martyrs’ Week called by Red rebels from Friday in the Maoist-hit districts of Odisha, State police are planning a new initiative to educate the surrendered Maoists for their better future.
While the ultras are making efforts to force youths to join their banned CPI(Maoist) to continue their fight against the Government, the initiative of imparting education is expected to give a ray of hope to the rebels who have surrendered before police to join the social mainstream.
According to reports, Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Meena has launched the initiative for the Maoists who have given up arms. Over 50 surrendered Maoists would be provided education for six months; and later, they would be eligible for direct admission into Plus Three courses.
Meena has also directed his officials for an education system for the families and children who have been displaced by the Maoists. Besides, police would also try to find out the unemployed youths of the district and enrol them in the Open Schools.
Notably, the Martyrs’ Week has been called by the Maoists to observe from July 28 till August 3 to remember the militants killed in the gunfight with police. Several martyrs’ pillars would be constructed by the ultras to remember their martyrs and youths would be forced to join the Maoist cadres.
