The Commissionerate Police on Monday lodged a case against Hotel Trident for providing accommodation to wanted criminal Deccan Chronicle (DC) group vice-chairman PK Iyer on fake identity. The police also registered a case against Iyer as he had submitted fake identity to the hotel management to book the room, informed Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.
Iyer was arrested by the city police on Saturday in connection with a Rs357 crore bank loan fraud case. “The hotel management is accused of providing accommodation to a wanted criminal, who had been staying in the hotel for the past few months on a fake identity,” Bhoi said. “It might be a criminal conspiracy hatched by the Trident hotel management in keeping Iyer against whom the CBI had registered a fraud case and was in the hunt in connection with an alleged loan fraud,” Bhoi said.
“The hotel management has violated Sarai Act and Sec 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sec 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) Act as they did not verify information about Iyer before providing a room,” Bhoi added. Sources in the Commissionerate Police said Iyer was living in Room No 220 of Trident Hotel here under the assumed name of Chitra Athwani since May 17.
