A woman constable sustained severe injuries in a clash with locals at Angula under Soro police station in Baleswar district on Friday following a road block in area over death of a youth in an accident.The injured Constable was shifted to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack where she is stated to be critical.According to reports, the irate villagers staged the blockade after a youth was killed in a road accident near the village on Thursday night.
They demanded immediate arrest of the driver of a dumper holding him responsible for death and adequate compensation to victim’s family.Local Tehsildar and Soro police arrived at the spot following incident to pacify villagers to withdraw the agitation as it caused a traffic jam on road. However, the situation went out of the control when the villagers turned violent. Some of them indulged in brick-batting. The Woman Constable was hit by a stone was severely injured.
The police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse agitators and in process few protestors also suffered minor injuries. An FIR has been lodged against some protestors for rioting and obstructing Government officials from discharging their duties.
