The civil society of Jayadev Vihar on Wednesday felicitated Police Inspector Anup Kanungo by presenting him a bouquet at his residence here as he helped a local youth, Sahadev Maharana, get justice.
Maharana, who was mistakenly arrested by the police in a case of purchase of gold from a looter, was released after Kanungo came to his rescue.
A few months ago, when Kanungo was the Inspector-in-Charge of the Nayapalli police station, Maharana was mistakenly held by his officers for allegedly purchasing jewellery from the looter. later, Maharana was released by Kanungo after conducting an impartial investigation.
But the same story was repeated a couple of days ago. Maharana requested the police officers who took him to police station to ask Kanungo about his honesty. And finally, he got justice after Kanungo’s intervention.
Kanungo, who is the president of the Odisha Police Association and was awarded as the best Inspector of 2013 by the Commissionerate Police and as the best Office-in-Charge of police when he was at the Begunia police station, is now in special squad of the Commissionerate Police.
