The Commissionerate police on Saturday expected that it would be able to extract “valuable” information from the polygraph test of ex-Army doctor Somanath Parida to clear the air regarding the mysterious death of his wife Ushashree.

According to highly-placed sources, polygraphists of the State Forensic Science laboratory (SFSl) here have started the test on Parida, for which they framed some questions in consultation with the investigating police officers.

“The polygraph test would clear the air with Parida sticking to the suicide theory,” said a senior police official.Though the police were granted a three-day remand of Parida on Thursday to interrogate him, it reportedly failed to elicit information regarding his involvement in the murder.

“The postmortem report confirms head injuries leading to the death of Ushashree, but her husband is still denying his involvement in the heinous crime. He is only admitting to have chopped the dead body into pieces,” the official said.

On Thursday, while being whisked away by the police, Somanth had said, “I love my wife; I have not killed her.

Meanwhile Somanath’s daughter lekha spoke to the investigating officials on Friday after arriving from the UAE. Though the discussion was kept secret, the police from circumstantial evidence believe that the alleged hostility between the father and daughter might have triggered argument between Usharshee and Somanath on June 3 when she was allegedly killed.
