Police give clean chit to Anubhav

City DCP Akhileswar Singh on Friday gave a clean chit to Kendrapada BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty and his younger brother Anuprasa Mohanty, who were booked last month by police for allegedly assaulting and harassing a local woman journalist.

Singh told reporters that the actual findings made so far by the investigating police officers reveal that there are no such evidences about the MP assaulting the woman scribe or the MP’s brother passing any lewd comment at her.

“There were exchanges of hot words between the two parties on the day of the incident but no such evidence found from the CCTV footages and mobile phone recordings to substantiate the other allegations made by the complainant against the MP and his family,” the DCP said.

The journalist had alleged that the MP’s brother was repeatedly passing obscene comments to her; and on June 13 when she had visited the MP’s house at Choudhury Bazaar under the Purighat police station to complain about it, the MP and his actress-wife assaulted her.

A day after police booked the MP and his family under Sections 294, 354-A, 323 and 34 of IPC, the MP’s brother also filed a counter FIR against the journalist.

Meanwhile, the police and a local judicial magistrate had recorded statements of at least six witnesses in connection with both the cases.
