The Commissionerate Police would soon track ambulances through Global Positioning System (GPS) for their smooth passage in the busy streets of the city.
The tracking system of ambulances would enable traffic police engaged in different squares to get prior information thereby facilitating their free passage. Initially, the system would be executed in the capital city soon.
The GPS tracking system would provide real-time data to traffic posts about the location of the ambulance. The data would be used by traffic police to clear the traffic on the route of the ambulance ahead of their arrival. To carry out the proposal the Commissionerate Police has written letter to all the hospitals in the city to install GPS devices on their ambulances. Once the devices are installed, data on location of ambulances would be available to traffic police stations and also on the mobile devices of traffic officials.
“We are trying to create a system wherein the traffic police at all the intersections will be alerted about the location of ambulance through GPS system. Moreover, the traffic police are also working on a system to co-ordinate the movement of VIP vehicles and ambulances. It will enable the traffic administration to regulate the movement of VIP vehicles so that it doesn’t hamper the movement of ambulances,” said Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma.
