Hundreds of aggrieved Block Grant school teachers of the State affiliated to various associations on Thursday failed to enter Hinjilikatu, the home constituency of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Ganjam district, due to heavy deployment of police forces at all entry points.
The teachers have been protesting the divide-and-rule tactics of the Government.
Unable to enter Hinjilikatu, the teachers held a protest meeting at Aska and blamed the Government for its apathetic attitude towards them.
The teachers planned to hold a meeting near Hinjili block office.
All the Block Grant teachers along with their family members had gathered at Hinjili for the mega rally since Wednesday evening. They had planned to make door-to-door visit in the Chief Minister’s constituency to press for their demand.
last week, many teachers had been lathicharged and arrested as they had tried marching towards the Naveen Niwas, the CM’s residence in Bhubaneswar, to highlight their plights.
The teachers have been demanding job regularisation and abolition of the Block Grant system.
Meanwhile, the association too threatened to boycott the matriculation examination and answer-sheet evaluation process as a mark of protest.
