Police dragging feet to nab main accused

Even as 24 days have passed since miscreants hurled bombs at the car of the Rajya Sabha member Prasant Nanda’s son Rishab Nanda, the police are yet to arrest the main accused, who is roaming scot-free in the area now.

On October 1, Rishab Nanda, along with his driver, was on his way to Bhubaneswar after attending a programme in Anantapalli village under Begunia block in Khorda district.

Basing on a complaint lodged by the driver, the Begunia police arrested two persons, Ramchandra Samantray and Prakash Chandra Routray and tried to pat its own back arresting them.

But it is being alleged that the main accused is still roaming scot-free in the area due to the patronage of some influential political leaders. Police are also reluctant to arrest the main accused as there is an internal feud in the ruling party.

The locals have alleged that the law and order situation in the town is deteriorating by the day and dacoities, murder and other heinous crimes have become routine affairs. The district administration has not taken any effort to control the law and order situation.
