While there is no sign of any letup in the ongoing lawyers’ strike in the State over the lawyers-police row, the Odisha Havildar, Constable and Sepoy Confederation, the State’s largest police body, has threatened to revolt if the Government does not look into their demand within 48 hours.
Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, confederation president Santosh Satpathy said two of their colleagues, who were escorting
the State Advocate General inside the High Court on Monday, were assaulted by some advocates, evidences of which are available in CCTV footages.
“Although written complaints were made at the local police station, no action has yet been taken even as 48 hours have already passed. We are giving another 48 hours to the Government; and if nothing happens, we will be forced to resort to agitation path,” Satpathy warned.
“We may resort to cease-work and stage silent protests throughout the State; and if required, we shall withdraw from security services as well,” Satpathy said, recalling the confederation’s earlier appeal urging the striking lawyers not to exert pressure on the Government to arrest policemen.
Meanwhile in a joint meeting held here on the day, executive members of over hundred bar associations of the State expressed unanimous support to the High Court Bar Association and announced that they would abide by whatever decision the association would take with regard to the ongoing strike.
