Police again raid Mahima's house in city

Not yet able to find the whereabouts of Odisha Stevedores limited (OSl) MD Mahimananda Mishra, who is wanted in connection with the murder of a top executive of a stevedoring company, police on Sunday conducted a raid on the house of the businessman here at Baramunda.

A team of Paradip police officials conducted the raid anticipating his presence. This was the second such raid on this house in less than two weeks.

As per reports, the police interrogated Mahimananda Mishra’s wife Mala Mishra to get any clues regarding his whereabouts. They are likely to record her statement, the reports added.

Police are on the lookout for Mishra in connection with the murder of Seaways Shipping and logistics Private limited (SSPl) general manager Mahendra Swain.

Notably, police had also raided Mishra’s farmhouse at Nischintakoili, his Empires Hotel at Saheed Nagar in Bhubaneswar and his house at Odia Bazar in Cuttack last month.

A lookout Circular has been issued against Mishra. He had moved the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail and challenging the lookout Circular, but the court denied interim protection to him.

Meanwhile, the firearms licences of Mishra and his son Charchit have been cancelled by police.

It may be recalled that on October 26, shots were fired at Swain near the Ambedkar Bhawan at Madhuban Colony in Paradip. Two miscreants had hurled crude hand bombs at the SUV in which Swain was going to his office. While Swain was fleeing to save himself after alighting from the vehicle, the miscreants fired two rounds at him, leading to his death on the spot.

Probing into the incident, the Paradip police have so far arrested five accused, Rakesh Chaubey and Riyasat Hussain of Jamshedpur, Muhammad Samin of Jharkhand and Manoj Gochhayat and Shiva of Cuttack.
