The State Water Resources Department has submitted a detailed report to the Assembly House Committee stating that no clearance has been obtained from the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MTA) on the Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh.
The memorandum would be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Water Resources Secretary PK Jena said no Palli Sabhas were conducted in the areas that stand to be affected to get approval of the people as required under law.
“No clearances have been obtained from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for the Polavaram project,” he said, adding that there are discrepancies in the Central Government’s decision to give the go-ahead to the project.
He also informed that the Odisha Government has filed an amendment petition at the Supreme Court regarding the project.
Meanwhile, the Assembly House Committee on Polavaram has sought an appointment with the Prime Minister to discuss the issue. The committee requested the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to fix an appointment with the Prime Minister between December 27 and January 18.
