The Abhimanyu Smruti Sansad celebrated the 254th birth anniversary of Bidagdhakabi Abhimanyu Samantasinghar here on Thursday.Inaugurating the programme, MlA and former Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai said, “We should celebrate such anniversary days of all legendary persons who have contributed in the field of literature. In Abhimanyu’s writings, we can get to know about woman, love and the development of society, and also agriculture,” he said.
Ghadai also lauded the efforts of the members of the organisation for spreading and popularising Odia literature. In his welcome speech, Sansad president Pradeep Biswal said Samantasinghar contributed a lot to Odia literature. But these contributions have not reached all people, for which the Sansad has been celebrating the poet’s birth anniversary since 1976 and also publishing his manuscripts. This year, the organisation has published his book Rasabati.
Chief speaker writer Adikanda Sahoo described Abhimanyu as a Mahakabi. Critic Bauribandhu Kar, poet Manoj Meher, educationist Gokulananda Das, social worker Padma Charan Nayak, Odishi Guru Durga Charan Ranbir and agriculture scientist Prof Satyaranjan Das were felicitated on the occasion.
Sansad general secretary Khatucharan Biswal read the annual report and vice-president Purna Chandra Jena gave a vote of thanks.
