Leading solar manufacturers have sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to provide a level-playing field to all manufacturing units in order to realise the true potential of the renewable energy sector under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
Vikram Solar CEO Saibaba Vutukuri along with Reneways Global CEO Avinash Hiranandani, and Webel Solar MD SL Agarwal said the imposition of BCD, announced by the Ministry of Finance, would be detrimental for units located in the SEZs as they would be liable to pay the customs duty on the value of solar modules.
The country’s ability to produce indigenously manufactured cells and modules would be hampered, they said.
Whopping 63% cell manufacturing capacity and 43% module manufacturing facility are located at the SEZs, they claimed.
