Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Speaker of Assembly Rama Chandra Panda has requested the Centre to set up a Commission of Enquiry on martyrdom of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, a demand fervently made by late leaders’ mother late Jogamaya Devi but was deliberately ignored.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajanath Singh and national BJP president Amit Saha, Panda stated that the whole nation is waiting for last six decades to know the mystery into the sad demise of Mookerjee, the giant nationalist on June 23, 1953 while under detention.
Panda said that though a substantial period of time has already been elapsed, there were very little and negligible steps taken at the level of the then Union Government to make an in-depth enquiry into the tragic end of this giant nationalist. All the questions raised about the death of the leader needs to be unearthed to redeem country’s gratitude to the great soul who sacrificed his life to prevent disintegration of Jammu and Kashmir from India and uphold the supremacy of “Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan”.
Panda in his letter also said that the subject matter of enquiry should be the grounds leading to Praja Parishad Movement in Jammu and Kashmir and the ungrudging support of Mookerjee and other national leaders to the movement including the status of various correspondences made between Mookerjee with the then Prime Minister and Jammu and Kashmir Government before and after his Kashmir journey from May 8, 1953 till his death.
The status of health of this great nationalist and patriot, right from the moment of his arrest, during the period of his detention, and the nature of medical attention paid to treat his ailments, etc. should be included under the ambience of investigation to unearth the mysterious death of the great nationalist for public scrutiny, Panda added.
