The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Higher Education Secretary to submit two action-taken reports (ATR) over the failure and negligence of the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in publishing the results of the Plus II students of the State in four weeks.

The apex watchdog of human rights passed the order acting over two different petitions filed by Supreme Court lawyer and rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy recently.

In the first case 132 students of Agarpada Women’s College of Bhadrak district have been suffering harassment and mental torture due to the large scale irregularities in the results.

In this college the results of 132 students who appeared for the examination conducted by the CHSE, were not published as the answer sheets of Political Science subject have been lost due to the negligence of the concerned authorities of the State.

In the second case Tripathy cited the example of 144 students of Ballabhidevi Women’s College in Nischintakoili block in Cuttack district who have been suffering harassment and mental torture due to the missing of answer sheets.

“All these students are under severe depression. The last date for admission for higher studies is going to be attaining finality soon. The inaction of the authorities deprives these girls to continue further studies amounting violation of human rights,” Tripathy said.

He urged the commission to investigate the case and direct the concerned department to take action against the errant officials and pay compensation to the students who have been suffering due to the error committed by the CHSE. Moreover, the the incidents could jeopardise the career of the students thereby creating more problems for them.
