Keeping in view the massive pass percentage of this year’s matriculation examination, the Government on Wednesday decided to increase the number of seats in Plus II and Plus III by 20 per cent in all Government colleges from the current academic session. Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi said the Government has taken an in-principle decision in this regard.
The move will add about 1 lakh seats for the students aspiring to pursue the courses in the Government colleges in the State, said the Minister. “As the pass percentage in this year’s matriculation examination in the State is better than the previous year, it became inevitable to increase the number of seats in the colleges to accommodate all the successful students,” said Panigrahi. The Minister, however, clarified that the seats would be increased in a college on the basis of its infrastructure and other facilities, which is a must in imparting quality education.
