PlGA Week begins; security tightened

Published on:

Police have tightened security in Malkangiri district due to observance of People’s liberation Guerrilla Army (PlGA) week by Maoists from today.

BSF, SOG and DVF personnel have been deployed in Maoist-affected areas of the district. Blockings have been set up by the police personnel at different sensitive places to frisk vehicles.

On the other hand, Maoist posters were spotted in cut-off areas of the district in which the red rebels have asked people to observe the week and youths to join the PlGA.

Meanwhile, the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has stopped plying of buses in the district and Jeypore in Koraput apprehending any untoward incident. A total of 25 buses have been taken off the roads.

Businessmen have also shut their shops in Maoist-affected areas due to the PlGA week call. Notably, Maoists have been observing the PlGA week every year since December 2, 2000, when the outlawed outfit was formed under the leadership of Kranti Ranadeb.
