The Special Chief Judicial Magistrate (CBI) Court here on Tuesday rejected the petition filed by the Jharpara jail authorities to relocate owner of chit fund company Swastik India Multi-State Cooperative Society Ranjan Dash, who has been arrested by the CBI in connection with the chit fund scam, to the Choudwar jail on health grounds.

The court also directed the Jharpara jail authorities to provide treatment to Dash at Cuttack while keeping him at their jail. The Jharpara jail authorities had prayed that since Dash is suffering from oral cancer which is in a preliminary stage, he is being taken to the Acharya Harihar Cancer Research Institute (AHCRI) in Cuttack at frequent intervals.

For security reasons, Dash is being escorted by over half a dozen security personnel. If he is shifted to Choudwar on the outskirts of Cuttack, it would be convenient for the authorities to provide him medical care, the petition had stated. Meanwhile, the Khordha District and Sessions Court here on Tuesday rejected bail plea of television channel owner Manoj Dash and sent him to judicial custody. Dash has been arrested by the CBI in connection with the Artha Tatwa (AT) Group chit fund scam.
