Residents of Malkangiri are a worried lot over consumption of eggs after reports of sale of plastic eggs spread in the district on Friday.
According to reports, one Digambar Behera of the Hi-Tech colony here bought four eggs from a local shop, out of which three were found made of plastic.
Shapes of the eggs were round instead of oval and yolks inside them were very elastic, said Behera. When asked, the concerned shopkeeper said he had purchased the eggs from a wholesaler.
Locals have expressed concern over the availability of such eggs in the market as eggs are also being provided to students in Government schools and Anganwadi centres in the district.
District administration officials were yet to comment on the matter.
