In a unique way, Guruma Sonam Kinnar residing in Kali Basti of Satya Nagar here celebrated her 35th birthday by inviting Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and Padma Shri Prafulla Kar to plant trees.
Attending the function, Mayor Jena, singer Kar and Transgender Representative Committee chairman Pratap Sahu planted more than 50 saplings, including limba, Kadamba and other plants having medicinal values.
Addressing over 300 transgenders, the Mayor later stressed on the social security of the third genders. Pratap Sahu said plans are for at Government level to provide ration card, identity card and monthly allowance, etc to transgenders soon. later, a cake-cutting ceremony was held.
Among others, Deputy Mayor K Shanti, Madhuri Kinnar, Meghna Kinnar, Subha Kinnar, Meera Kinnar, Menaka Kinnar, Sweety Kinnar were present. The Kinars later presented their traditional song and dance performances.
