The members of Gajapati District Bar Association led by secretary KN Das took out a bike rally on Monday from the District Sessions Court, Paralakhemundi, holding placards and showing various slogans against the police for lodging a false case against a member advocate. They demanded that the case be fairly probed by the Crime Branch or the CBI in their memorandum to the Secretary, Home Department, Odisha, through Gajapti ADM Dhrubaraj Pandey.
Sources said advocate Batakrushna Patro (67), who was pleader for a woman in a case demanding maintenance from her husband, was victimised by the woman after she grew vindictive over not being able to succeed in the case. She rebuked Patro in the court and even threatened to lodge a false case against him. And, she did it when she filed a complaint before police that she was raped by Patro at his home on the plea of inviting her to his house for discussing the case.
Police sent the duo for medical examination and the doctor did not find any sign of sexual assault.
