Considering his immense contribution in promotion of telecommunication and technology in the country, the Odisha Government has proposed to rope in Sam Pitroda as technology adviser for the development of information technology-enabled services (ITES) sectors of the State.
According to official sources, the State Information Technology (IT) Department has sent a proposal Pitroda in this regard.
Though Pitroda is yet to confirm his decision, he has expressed his willingness to accept the post offered by the State Government, sources in the IT Department said.
The Government hopes that Pitroda, who was the founder and the first Chairman of the Telecom Commission, would be able to make use of his rich experience and contact base to attract investments to the State.
A native of Balangir district, Pitroda had recently visited Odisha to release his autobiography Dreaming Big: My Journey to Connect India.
Pitroda was adviser to the Prime Minister on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovation. He was also Chairman of the National Knowledge Commission from 2005 to 2009.
