The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced that the much-awaited by-election to the Pipili Assembly constituency would be held on April 17. A gazette notification in this regard would be issued on Mach 23.
The last date for filing of nomination papers is March 30 while the nominations would be scrutinised on March 31. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is April 3. Counting of votes would take place on May 2.
The by-poll has been was necessitated after the demise of incumbent BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy on October 4 last year. While BJD is most likely to field Maharathy’ wife Prativa Satpathy of son Rudra Prsatap as its candidate, the BJP and the Congress are yet indicate who their nominees would be.
