A pilot project of the Baby Health Card was launched by Minister of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Sanjay Dasburma in the presence of former diplomat Abasara Beuria here on Tuesday. Also present on the occasion were Shree Krishna Group chairman Pabitra Routray and Shree Krishna International School principal S Sarangi.

Baby Health Card is a technological innovation in the field of mobile health, designed and developed by CandidBiz Solutions Pvt ltd, Bhubaneswar. It was unveiled in the presence of over a thousand parents at the school’s Malipada campus in the backdrop of the annual extravaganza “Revolution 2015” of the school.

This technology empowers the parents of a newborn to receive regular vaccination alerts via text (SMS) and voice messages, regular health tips and important milestones to keep them on track with their ward’s routine immunisation programme. All that is needed to be done by the parents is to SMS the date of the birth and a pin obtained by scratching a silver panel at the back of the card to a designated mobile number.

The card plays an important role in improving routine immunisation (RI) rates and reducing vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs). According to the National Family Health Survey-3, VPDs are still responsible for over 5 lakh deaths of under-five children in India annually.
