PIl seeks recovery of lord's lands

CUTTACK: Stressing that large patches of land belonging to the Shree Jagannath Temple of Puri are now encroached by different people, a Public Interest litigation (PIl) was filed in the Orissa High Court on Wednesday seeking judicial intervention to recover them.

Petitioners Sarat Chandra Sahu and SN Banerjee of Chandanpur in Puri have approached the court stating that over 50,000 acres of land belonging to the Shreemandir and located both in and outside the State are now encroached without any benefit to the temple administration.

Making the temple administration and the State Government as respondents to the petition among others, the petitioners have prayed the court to intervene and monitor the recovery of the lord’s land. The PIl has, however, not been admitted yet.
