PIl filed against cricketers' age fudging

Civil society body All India Anti-Corruption Organisation (AIACO) filed a PIl in the Orissa High Court on Monday against cricket players fudging their age.

The organisation’s State convenor and petitioner advocate Subrat Kumar Nanda in the PIl has made 40 people parties including the Housing and Urban Development Secretary , Sports and Youth Development Department Secretary , Odisha DGP, CBI , Cuttack and Khordha Collectors , Municipal Commissioners of Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), Board for Control of Cricket in India(BCCI) and 27 players.

The petitioner alleged that OCA is multiple times flouting the directions of the Supreme Court on July 18, 2016 in case no 4235/ 2014 and selecting players.

In this connection BCCI, OCA and different Government officials were petitioned and urged to take action against those players who fudged their age.

But OCA instead of taking action promoted age irregularities. In 2016, the CBI while inquiring into the allegations of age fudging by AIACO had asked the BCCI to take immediate action. As a result thirty players, who had allegedly fudged their age came under the scanner and were debarred from playing for one year.

But in 2017, most of the players in all categories of the State have fudged their age with active cooperation of OCA, for which petitioner Nanda has prayed the court to lodge criminal cases and take against the accused. Besides, it has been demanded to stop payment of their match fees as per the Supreme Court orders.

The petitioner requested following all directions of the apex court like forming of different committees, uploading of the age of all players in the OCA site, cancelling the contracts of those who have been working in different Government organisations and appointed coaches of the teams and stopping payments of their remuneration. For the petitioner senior lawyer Ashok Mohapatra is appearing in the case.
