About 72 physically-challenged teachers who were appointed in several primary schools across Jagatsinghpur district in 2010 and subsequently retrenched by the Government staged a demonstration in front of the district collectorate here on Tuesday.
They said the Government had retrenched them on March 11 last. However, challenging the illegal action, they had approached the Odisha High Court. Studying the case, the court had granted an interim order staying the retrenchment. But, ironically, when the matter was pending at the High Court, the OPEPA issued a fresh retrenchment order on June 28 last for immediate removal of the teachers from schools.
“We oppose the OPEPA decision and demand its immediate rollback,” said Jagatsinghpur district disabled teachers’ leader Rama Chandra Khatua.
later, the agitating teachers submitted a memorandum to the sub collector of Jagatsinghpur addressing the Chief Minister seeking his intervention in the issue.
