About 50 farmers of Kendrapada and Marshaghai blocks staged a demonstration in front of the district Collectorate here on Thursday showcasing pest-affected paddy crops and demanding fulfillment of a four-point charter of demands.
Their demands included a survey by the Agriculture and Revenue department officials of the extent of damage done to the paddy crops by pest, exemption from agriculture loans to the affected farmers, compensation Rs25,000 per acre for full damage and Rs12,000 per acre for partial damage, supply of free Rabi crop seeds, fertiliser and pesticides.The farmers later submitted a memorandum to the district Collector.
