People defied call for shutdown, says Cong

The Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday said the people of the State defied the dawn-to-dusk Hartal call given by the ruling BJD on Friday over “Central negligence”.

“The BJD is trying to divert the minds of people on the plea of the ‘State’s dignity’ from its inefficiency with a political motive keeping the coming elections in view.

But the people of the State who understand the motive of the Government defied the Hartal call given on the birth anniversary of Parala Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deb, the architect of formation of Odisha State,” said PCC general secretary Aryakumar Janandra quoting PCC president Niranjan Patnaik.

Patnaik also alleged that many ruling party MlAs and Ministers are involved in various women atrocity cases while the party has forgotten its Gaon ku Kama, Maa Ku Sanman slogan.

The Government has also failed in its promise to generate employment for 15 lakh youths in last 13 years and has, instead, created 30 lakh unemployed persons, he said.

Patnaik alleged that the State has failed to utilise the Central funds. “The call for the Hartal is an attempt to cover up the inefficiency of the Government,” he added.
