One Suresh Baral of Kodhakusang village under Puri district’s Nimapara block has urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to provide financial support for treatment of his daughter Devasmita (23), who is suffering from bone cancer for the last two years.

According to information, Suresh, who belongs to BPl category, had married off Devashmita to Suresh Manjaraj of Mangalpur Chhak of Pipili two and half-a-year ago. Suresh’s family depends on a betel shop for livelihood. Devasmita returned to her parents’ house after her pregnancy turned seventh month. Since then, she has been staying in her parents’ house.

After she gave birth to a boy child, Devasmita was detected with a bone cancer in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. Suresh sold his family’s all ornaments for her treatment. Though her in-law’s family extended support initially, now they are not at good terms with Devasmita and are not ready to bear anything. Though the two families together spent over Rs 5 lakh, but her condition is as before.

Suresh is now unable to take her burden. The family now depends on the earning of her brother, who is working in Chennai as an labourer.

Though a BPl holder, Suresh has not yet got a house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana and is living in a mud house with his wife, old mother and sick daughter.

“We have none to help us now. We urge Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to help us so that our daughter can survive,” Suresh told our correspondent.
