Pending mine revenue on steady rises in State

Even as the State Government on Tuesday hiked Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel to augment its revenue resources, a large amount of funds are pending for collection on the mining front. According to sources, mining revenue worth more than Rs1,884 crore has not been collected in the 2014-15 fiscal. As the mine leaseholders are delaying payment towards royalty, fine and other heads, the dues are rising every year.

AroundRs113 crore was pending on the mining lessees in 2009-10 and the amount touched Rs1,845 crore during the year 2014-15. The outstanding dues are on the rise since 2012-13 fiscal, official sources said.

Similarly, the dues were Rs1,974.94 crore on mine leaseholders in the fiscal year 2009-10. The Government had collected Rs1,791.18 crore from them, but has failed to collect the remaining Rs183.76 crore.

The pending revenue amount has now crossed Rs1,884 crore in the 2014-15 fiscal. While mining lessees were supposed to pay Rs6,518.64 crore towards the pending revenue amount in 2014-15, the Government collected only Rs4,633.83 crore from them.

The sources said the Government has filed a certificate case of Rs1,56,41,215 against the mine leaseholders to collect the pending amount of Rs18,37,44,52,986 by end of November last year.

On the other hand, opposing the payment of the dues several mine leaseholders have moved the revision authority and the High Court. Since the matter is subjudice, hundreds of crores of rupees could not be recovered from the lessees, the sources said.
