Allegation on embezzlement of funds by the panchayat official in charge of PDS ration supply in Dabri panchayat under Khariar block has come true.
The people of Dabri panchayat in a written complaint filed in the block office at Khariar on January 25 had alleged that Jogan Sahayak Subash Tandi, who is in charge of PDS ration supply, had misappropriated about Rs 2.4 lakh. Basing on the complaint, the BDO had instructed the Marketing Inspector (MI) to conduct an inquiry.
But, Tandi did not allow the MI to verify the documents and the cash book of PDS. Finally, the PEO of the Panchayat submitted a report, which reveals that Tandi had not deposited Rs 2, 49,163 in the bank account accrued from the sale of PDS materials in last few months.
After the Sarpanch repeatedly sent notices to Tandi directing him to return the amount, the latter returned about Rs 1.7 lakh till now.
The Sarpanch intimated about the matter to the BDO, Khariar on March 3 last, but the BDO is yet to initiate action against Tandi.
The people mhave also complained that Tandi misbehaved with the consumers when they spoke about the mismanagement of the distribution system.
