State Government has decided to reduce kerosene quota for the BPL families under the public distribution system (PDS).
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain informed the State Assembly on Wednesday that instead of 2.5 litre of kerosene, a family would now be provided with 2 litre.
The reduced kerosene quota would be implemented from August this year, he said.
Till July 2019, the Centre was providing 20,700 kilolitre of kerosene to Odisha per month, but that has been slashed to 16,384 kilolitre, the Minister said, citing the reason why the per-family quota has been reduced.
Earlier, 650 ml of kerosene per family per month was provided under the PDS that was later increased to 2.5 litre in June 2018.
